ROLE:  DIRECTOR/ WRITER
In 1992 A peaceful demonstration turns into an all out riot in Toronto, when people marched against the constant shooting of young black males.
This was the short synopsis to a pet project that I did with a friend and professor of labour studies did with York University. I did not grow up in Canada but I was intrigued and disheartened by the parallel that was happening in the states with the Rodney King and their own struggles.
Without any real funding we took on the job of telling this little-known story from the perspective of those that created the demonstration. It is a fascinating look at activism, governing and the lasting legacy of the movement.
RESULT:
We released this on the 20th anniversary of the uprising at York University to a full auditorium with a beautiful reception. We were interviewed by several Toronto news outlets about the film. We have asked to be on several panels regarding aspects of the film. It has also been used in several university courses. It was also a selection in the Vancouver international film festival.
